Report: Quarterly Solar Report Q1 2016
Highlights from the Quarterly Solar Report Q1 2016
- STC creation in the March Quarter was the lowest level since the SRES commenced in 2011. It was 10.8 per cent lower than the average of the previous 4 quarters.
- SWH: 12,013 systems created STCs for the quarter which were the lowest number since the SRES began, driven by exceptionally low system numbers in January. February and March system numbers, however, rebounded substantially to levels similar to the same time last year.
- PV: 30,800 systems created STCs for the quarter which was also the lowest ever since the SRES began. This was down 7.5 per cent on the prior December quarter, 14.3 per cent down on the prior 4 quarters and almost a fifth down on the March quarter last year. Unlike SWH each month had system numbers significantly lower than the same period last year. Furthermore, installed capacity was also at record low levels for the SRES, with the continuing decline in residential systems overwhelming any gains in capacity per system which has been partially tied to the growth of the commercial sector.
- As part of analysis we undertook for the CER, our base case envisaged 723.2MW of PV to be installed in 2016. Based on installations so far it appears unlikely that this will be exceeded.
